Professional Standards for Interdisciplinary Functional Practice

 

MTARA is the national peak body professional association representing MDT Specialists.

 

MDT Specialists are practitioners whose professional work centres on functional assessment and functional analysis in contexts where understanding how a person functions in everyday life requires the integration of information from more than one discipline. This work is well established across disability, ageing, mental health, education, family and community services, forensic contexts, and administrative review settings.

 

MDT Specialists analyse functional capacity, participation, endurance, and interaction with environmental, educational, and service-system demands. By integrating evidence from health, psychosocial, behavioural, environmental, and contextual sources, MDT Specialists produce structured functional assessments, comprehensive functional analysis, and practical, whole-of-person functional recommendations.

 

MTARA defines professional standards for this work, clarifies scope of practice, and supports ethical, consistent, and accountable multidisciplinary functional practice across Australia.
